||broommates|| weekend 2022
This weekend is one of the best weekends I had with more than one person in a long time. If you would have told me that a weekend with 12 humans who have never met in person would happen so smoothly and without incident, I may not have believed you. What started as a trip to see our one mutual friend to celebrate the return of her brick and motor store turned into the most fulfilling weekend.
We all connected via Discord over the course of the last 2 (maybe 3 years). For me, the pandemic was well underway and I was still looking for community. I think we don’t talk enough about different community groups and how hard it is to make friends as an adult.
Many of us have childhood friends (I do) and friends that are like family so they fold into that group, but to find a group of humans who have common interests in our case Tarot and Astrology, and also get along enough to be there as a support system is a rarity.
The weekend started off very anxious for me. I was excited, but also really scared. I have been talking with these humans for months, but what if I am SO ODD and introverted that I do something that offends someone?
As soon as I stepped out of the Uber, I was greeted with open arms. Some of the best huggers I have ever met. I am not normally a hugger but each embrace felt like old friends. Our conversations picked up from where we were on Discord. There was a non-issue with names as some of us were still calling each other by our handles, but we found that we liked it. It was a thing that was just for us.
All meals were a breeze. I don’t think any of my meals have ever been as easy as this weekend was. Someone had an idea and we all were like SOUNDS GOOD. We went around to see some of the sights. I love seeing the local sights of any place I am visiting and I definitely felt like I got to see a lot of Philly that I would have not known about otherwise. We visited so many small shops and local artists and bought things a long the way.
We were probably a sight to see. Humans walking two by two up a group of 10-12 just making our way through Philadelphia.
It was lost on no one that this was a very rare and magickal occurrence. We had all been looking for someone (s) and we all have found exactly what we needed and have made the most of it.
I can’t wait until we plan another trip for next year. We all want it to be a yearly outing, where we can just be us and be accepted and just vibe.
